Architects East Lothian
Founded by experienced architects Chris Matson and Gill Mourier, Matson Mourier Architects provides thoughtful, practical architectural design across East Lothian.
Experienced Architects Serving East Lothian
Matson Mourier Architects is a Midlothian-based architectural practice working with homeowners, businesses and developers across East Lothian and the surrounding areas.
We provide architectural support from the earliest stages of a project, including feasibility and site assessment, through concept development, planning and detailed design to completion.
Every project begins with understanding what you want to achieve. We consider the opportunities and constraints of the site, how the building will be used and the practical requirements of the project before developing a design that responds appropriately to its setting.
Whether you are considering a new home or planning a commercial project, our aim is to make the architectural process clear, collaborative and enjoyable.
Experience
We are experienced architects working across East Lothian, delivering architectural design from early feasibility and masterplanning through to completion. We assess site potential, layouts, floor space and context to create considered new-build and commercial schemes shaped around your vision.
Residential Architecture
Covering contemporary new builds, sensitive extensions, listed building restorations, and flats or apartment buildings, we design homes for modern family living, entertaining and luxury, creating adaptable spaces that combine style, comfort and functionality.
Commercial Architecture
Covering workplaces, retail and hospitality fit-outs, mixed-use developments and listed refurbishments, we design commercial spaces for productivity, brand experience and growth, creating adaptable environments that combine efficiency, comfort and compliance.

Our Approach to Architecture
Great design begins with understanding.
We don't approach projects with a predetermined style or one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, we listen carefully to what our clients want to achieve and develop an architectural response around the site, context, budget and people who will use the building.
Creativity is balanced with practicality and technical expertise throughout the process.
Careful attention to layout, materials and detail can transform how a building looks, feels and functions. Our aim is to find those opportunities while ensuring the overall design remains appropriate to its setting and purpose.
From the first conversation through to completion, Chris and Gill provide experienced guidance to help clients navigate decisions with confidence.
Our Design Philosophy
Great design begins with understanding. Every project is shaped around its setting, purpose and the people who will use it, with no one-size-fits-all approach. Across East Lothian, we combine creativity, practicality and technical expertise to create new-build homes and commercial spaces that respond thoughtfully to their surroundings. Careful attention to layout, materials and detail helps us create architecture that feels considered, distinctive and built to last, while remaining personal to each client and their vision.
