Beech Place, Penicuik

A contemporary extension to a traditional double cottage in the Penicuik Conservation Area creates a bright, open connection to the garden through a fully glazed corner, while the kitchen is externally wrapped in stone to complement the existing building.

Inside, the new ceiling follows the roof pitch, adding generous height that contrasts with the cosy scale of the original house. The former external stone wall has been repointed and left exposed, adding texture and character to the interior.

The result is a well-used family space that enhances the home and strengthens its relationship with the surrounding outdoor areas.
