Residential – Lothianbridge, Midlothian

Extension and alterations to a detached Victorian house, combining traditional detailing with modern materials and sustainable design. The project reconfigured the ground floor to create an open-plan kitchen and living space opening to the garden, with a new insulated floor slab, underfloor heating, and a biomass heating system.

A two-storey side extension was added in natural stone and slate to complement the original architecture, while a contrasting glazed rear sitting room introduces a contemporary edge. A new boot room and guest suite connect through a light-filled link, with patent glazing overhead.

At first floor level, the master bedroom opens onto a private terrace overlooking the landscaped gardens and river valley. The project concluded with a modest garage extension, creating a bright studio connected to the sunniest part of the garden.

3D Visualisations

Concept visuals were developed early in the design process to test light, materiality, and spatial flow. These renders helped the clients visualise how the upgraded envelope and new extension would feel day-to-day.
